OSCR EventsGoogle Apps for Education DemoThursday, April 9, 2009, 2 - 3 p.m., ILC 130Friday, April 10, 2009, 8 a.m. to 12 noon, MLL (CC 303)Google Apps for Education is under consideration as an email and online collaboration tools service provider for UA students, but email is just the start of the services students would receive. UA users would also have access to an entire suite of communication and collaboration tools, including messaging, shared calendars, and real-time sharing and editing of documents, presentations, spreadsheets, websites, and labs. The university is looking at outsourcing all UA student email (NetID@email.arizona.edu, the official means of communication from the University). If Google is chosen, all student email services would be provided by Google, with the other tools included; faculty and staff would be able to opt-in to a Google account. Google and other companies are already known for providing free online applications. Google educational contracts provide two main advantages to university users over free account users: 1) there is no advertising in university email and applications, and 2) all privacy and intellectual property rights for emails and other content are fully protected for university users. Thursday, April 9, from 2 to 3 p.m., Jaime Casap of Google will offer a presentation of Google Apps for Education in ILC 130, including a Question & Answer session. Friday, April 10, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, Jaime Casap will hold an Open House in OSCR's Multimedia Learning Lab, CC 303. Drop in to test drive Google Apps for Education and ask questions of the expert. 2009 EventsFebruary 13, 2009 - The 24/7 IT Support Center Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening CelebrationJune 17-20, 2009 - Final Cut Pro 6 Training
